TITLE: COUNSELOR - ELEMENTARY
QUALIFICATIONS: Possess a valid Kentucky Elementary Guidance and Counseling Certificate OR a valid Kentucky School Social Worker Certificate.
REPORT TO/EVALUATED BY: Principal
BASIC FUNCTION: Provide individual group and classroom counseling to students and serve as school liaison to social agencies within the community.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Assist in the development of a school philosophy of guidance and in defining objectives based on need. Provide leadership for the school guidance committee.
2. Conduct an assessment of the school guidance program and communicate the purposes of the guidance program to pupils, parents, staff, administrators and community.
3. Provide classroom guidance activities, group guidance activities and individual counseling services pertaining to academic, personnel and social development.
4. Consult with parents on school-student related concerns.
5. Assist in the maintenance of the permanent record system and help determine appropriate placement of students in classes according to their needs. Interpret permanent record data for parents/guardians upon request.
6. Serve as building level coordinator of standardized testing. Provide and interpret test results to students, parents/guardians and staff.
7. Participate in the referral and placement of students with special education needs. Upon the principal's request, serve as designated chairperson of the Admissions and Release Committee.
8. Serve as the liaison to the health coordinator on social service and health based concerns and as liaison to community based service organization projects.
9. Develop and conduct activities for children and parents as part of the Drug Free Schools Program.
10. Serve as liaison to the Children's Campus on placement and needs of their students in the public school.
11. Perform other related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
